Planet Needs Youth

1000 applications, 500 participants, 40 G20 Global Ambassadors and 3 winners: the second edition of Planet Needs YOUth, the ISPI initiative that leads young people to discover the most pressing global challenges for the future of the planet, has come to an end.

The project was launched in April with the Interactive Youth Forum: 500 university students coming from 43 countries spent two days of in-depth analysis and interaction on key international issues in dialogues with hig-level speakers and experts.

In the second phase of the initiative, the participants competed over the realization of awareness video-campaigns on digital transformation, the ecological transition, and the impact of conflicts on the new generations.

The 40 creators of the best projects were appointed ISPI G20 Global Ambassadors and took part in the Global Policy Forum and in the G20 Simulation Game in Milan from 20 ro 23rd June.

After three days of intense negotiations on critical issues related to energy transition, the Ambassadors presented the final declaration to a panel of experts. Their journey concluded with the awarding of the winners of the competition.

INTERACTIVE YOUTH FORUM

Lectures with high-level speakers from the Italian and international community in dialogue with the 500 participants on the most pressing challenges that the future of our planet is facing. From the Ukrainian conflict and its implications to the post-pandemic recovery, from the future of the education and job markets, to the digital transformation and the fight against climate change.

COMPETITION

23 April – 9 May

Participants in the Interactive Youth Forum challenged themselves by creating an innovative awareness campaigns on one of the following topics: the impact that conflicts have on young generations, risks or benefits of the digitalization and the opportunities of the green transition.

The 40 creators of the best awareness compaign were appointed as ISPI G20 Global Ambassadors. The projects were selected by experts from Bocconi University, Enel Foundation, Fondazione Cariplo and ISPI.

G20 SIMULATION GAME

20 – 23 June | Milan

The 40 ISPI G20 Global Ambassadors took part in 7 virtual preparation lessons from May 19th to June 8th on the Rules of Procedures, Negotiation, Public Speaking, as well as in in-depth sessions on the topic of the Simulation guided by representatives of Enel Foundation and KPMG.

From the 20th to thr 23rd June, the 40 ISPI G20 Global Ambassadors met in Milan to participate in the Global Policy Forum, the international conference organized by ISPI, Bocconi University, OECD and T20 Indonesia, and in the G20 Simulation Game organized by ISPI.

They spent three days of intense negotiations on the most pressing issues related to the energy transition with the aim of drafting a final declaration, which was discussed with an exceptional panel consisting of: Federico Beffa, Project Manager, Energy and Climate Change, Fondazione Cariplo; Italo Colantone, Associate Professor and Director of BA in International Politics and Government, Bocconi Univerisy; Laura Giovannini, Deputy Director – Head of Communication and Outreach, Enel Foundation and Francesco Rocchetti, Secretary General, ISPI.

FAQ

What are the requirements to participate?

  • Nationality: Italian and international students resident in Europe 
  • University students, from the first year of Bachelor (or equivalent) to recently graduates (within 12 months from graduation) 
  • Be sure you are available for all sessions of the Interactive Youth Forum: participation is compulsory to obtain the certificate of attendance. 
  • Be curious and proactive!  

If I was among the participants of the 2021 edition, can I apply?

Of course you can!

If you were among the 40 G20 Global Ambassadors of the 2021 edition you cannot take part in the competition.

How will the event take place?

The Interactive Youth Forum will take place in a virtual format (Zoom platform). The G20 Simulation Game and the Global Policy Forum will be held in Milan (June 20-23). 

How much does it cost?

Participation to each stage of the project is completely free (Interactive Youth Forum, Competition and G20 Simulation Game). If you will be selected as one of the 40 G20 Global Ambassadors, please note that travel expenses and the hotel will be covered by ISPI (except for city-transportation in Milan). 

What is the Global Policy Forum?

The II edition of the Global Policy Forum (GPF) is co-hosted by ISPI, Bocconi University, OECD and Think20 Indonesia. 

The GPF will be held in a hybrid format at the Bocconi University in Milan from 20 to 22 June. 

This international event will bring together high-level personalities, political leaders and top experts to discuss pressing global challenges, such as access to healthcare, digital transition, climate change and fair post-Covid recovery. Debates will also revolve around the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the ability of international cooperation to deliver a better world. 

As a milestone event of T20 Indonesia, the GPF also aims to provide sound and actionable policy proposals to G20 leaders.
